The Villa Carlotta, a historic 50-unit rent-stabilized apartment building located at 5959 Franklin Avenue, is in danger of being converted to a boutique hotel by developers wanting to cash in! Longtime residents were evicted under the Ellis Act from this artistic Hollywood haunt and now the developers are requesting a spot zone change from residential to commercial to accommodate this project. The conversion of this building would be a devastating precedent that would jeopardize a residential neighborhood and result in more loss of desperately needed housing.
